Opposition to the Transmission Line
Dominion and TrAILCo have proposed a 500-kilovolt transmission line from Pennsylvania to Virginia. In Virginia it would cross through Frederick, Warren, Rappahannock, Culpeper, Fauquier, Prince William and Loudoun counties.
We have now filed our notice of appeal to the Virginia Supreme Court. In addition, Fauquier, Culpeper, Prince William County, Virginia's Commitment, VSEP and the PLA have filed their intent to appeal. Find out more.
In a decision issued October 7th, the Virginia SCC issues approval for the transmission line, contingent on approval in both West Virginia and Pennsylvania.
The two Pennsylvania Judges reviewing the proposal in PA have recommended the line be turned down, saying the true impetus for the line is "to transport cheaper coal-fired generation from [west] to [east]."

The Hearing Examiner reviewing the transmission line proposal has recommended the line be approved conditioned on approval from both West Virginia and Pennsylvania.
June 12: New information has caused the SCC to reopen the transmission line record and require additional studies from Dominion and PJM.

The 500-kV transmission line proposed by Dominion Virginia Power and Allegheny Power (through their subsidiary TrAILCo) would begin in Western Pennsylvania, cross through West Virginia, and end in Loudoun County, Virginia.
