"Faced with neighborhood opposition and concerns by Greene County’s Planning Commission, the Jefferson Area Board of Aging (JABA) deferred a request to rezone 16 acres of land on Preddy Creek Road in Ruckersville. Rezoning would make way for up to 225 housing units for low-to-moderate-income seniors. "

Ms. Kate Kraus, the art teacher at NGES, is helping students construct the habitat, which is behind the school. Plans include a small pond, seven mini-habitats, and a tracking box to observe various animal tracks.

"Roughly three years ago, local resident Andrea Wilkinson decided to start a group aimed at preserving a particular quality of life in Ruckersville.
The group, dubbed the Ruckersville Citizens Council (RCC), took on such grassroots projects as beautifying streetscapes and putting up signs. It also began to hold monthly meetings in the form of roundtable discussions.
Today, the Ruckersville Citizen Council has become one of the most visible and vocal citizens’ groups in the County, commanding the attention of many of Greene’s top decision makers. "

"Bargain shoppers anticipating Wal-Mart’s arrival in Ruckersville will have to wait longer than first projected.
The retail giant announced to the Record back in June 2007 that it expected to begin construction on a new Wal-Mart Supercenter in Ruckersville in Spring 2008, hopefully to open sometime in late 2009.

"Stanardsville’s Bob Runkle kicks back in the kitchen of his 181-acre farm on South River Road and starts sharing stories. The farm has been recognized and honored by the Virginia Century Farm Program for being in operation for at least 100 consecutive years.
In fact, Runkle’s Stonewall Farm has been in operation -and in his family - for more than 200 years.

"To pave or not to pave. That was the question for residents of the County’s backcountry roads at Greene’s Board of Supervisor’s meeting July 8.
A total of twelve citizens spoke to the issue. Some residents of Stanardsville’s Middle River Road even presented the Board with a petition to stop the scheduled paving of that road. "
