Pennsylvania OKs Part Of Power Line

"Pennsylvania regulators on Thursday approved a short stretch of a multistate high-voltage power line designed to bring cheaper electricity from Appalachia to the Washington-New York corridor. The state Public Utility Commission voted 4-1 in favor of the 1.2-mile line to be built by electric utility Allegheny Energy Inc. "

Battlefields Get Help

"Virginia stepped forward yesterday to help save portions of 15 Civil War battlefields from encroaching development. The commonwealth will provide up to $5.2 million to front-line private groups defending Civil War battlefields--including Chancellorsville and Brandy Station. Preservationists must come up with $10.4 million to get the 21 matching grants awarded by the state Department of Historic Resources. "

Inn Fees Re-ignite Culpeper Feud

"The construction of an inn has become the latest battleground in the decade-long water-sewer war between Culpeper County and the Town of Culpeper. According to County Administrator Frank Bossio and Supervisor Tom Underwood, the town plans to charge the county about $650,000 in tap fees for a 98-room Hampton Inn being built just outside the town limits. River Edge Farm is one of the oldest black-owned-and-operated dairy farms in the Piedmont region, according to local farming agents. The farm was one of 13 that participated in the 11th annual Culpeper Harvest Days Farm Tour on Saturday and Sunday where visitors got to experience agriculture up close. "
